The Sound of A Whipperwhill

Have you ever heard a whippoorwill? I assumed I had. I mean I am from a small rural town in south Louisiana. The majority of my childhood and teenage years were spent outside. Over the past few months my father in law has been speaking of the whippoorwill at Camp D. This past weekend I had the joy of accompanying him and Matthew as we ate dinner on the porch and listened to the whippoorwill. What a simplistic song composed of a babbling creek and a whippoorwill. How could one not delight in nature?
This past week my father in law, "Papa", blogged about the whippoorwill and technology. He is a very gifted writer and wanted to share with you.

Mardi Gras..... Georgia Style!

In Louisiana everyone gets excited about Mardi Gras! There's king cake, colorful parades& costumes, beads, chasing chickens (yes chickens & it's quite fun) and just another excuse to "Let the Good Times Roll." This year we were especially excited for Mardi Gras because that meant Matthew's family all had vacation (South Louisiana basically shuts down for 3 days!) and were coming to Georgia to Camp D! It seems the times when all of Matthew's siblings, parents, and spouses schedules align is becoming fewer are farther between, so we have been looking forword to this weekend for a long time.

The weather was mostly cold and rainy but it gave great reason to stay in pj's, play games, watch home videos, and eat all of the delicious food Dee Dee prepared. Mary Stewart was very much in her element with all of her aunts and uncles adoring all over her! It truly was such a sweet time.

There were no parades or beads, there was a king cake that got devoured very quickly, but I'd have to say this was definitely one of my sweeter Mardi Gras!

I thought she had Dee Dee wrapped, I was wrong....She has Papa tied around her finger!!!

I love this picture of Nathan

My Sweet Family of 3....won't be able to say that for much longer!

Brothers.......

Thankful for sweet memories!

Snowmageddon!

Well if you have watched any news lately you know Atlanta is under a blanket of snow & ice! I would not want to EVER live anywhere, where snow and ice are a common occurrence, but will take the excitement a few times a year.
On Sunday Mary Stewart & I decided to stay in North Georgia with Matthew's parents to increase our chances of a definite snow in! In anticipation of snow on Sunday I searched for "snow gear" for Mary Stewart: pants, boots, mittens. I had no such luck. It seems toddler snow gear is a rare commodity.
We woke Monday morning to no less than 6 inches of fluffy white powder! Mary Stewart LOVED being pulled on her sled by PaPa. Each time I tried to take her off, she cried! She would cry out "Weeee!" every time the sled took off! If her sled was stopped for a moment for a photo opportunity or for us grownups to catch our breaths, Mary Stewart would bounce up and down as if to say, let's geaux!!!

I'm not sure who loved the snow more Mary Stewart or Maggie?

It was so fun to watch Maggie romp through the snow! She snoozed by the fire for the rest of the day!
Today is day 2 of being snowed in, and it looks like it may be all week! Good thing we are well stocked on firewood, popcorn, hot chocolate, movies and books!

Stay warm!!
