Movin' On Up!

Mary Stewart is movin' on up. Today we had her 9 month check up ( just 3 weeks late). I love these appointments because we get to see how much she's grown!
Today she weighed in at 19 lbs 14 oz (70%) & 29.75 in long (95%)!!!
This is quite a move up from 7% in weight at 6 months!
We also had to get our 3rd hepatitis shot which she whined, more from being held down than the actual shot.
But the most precious part of the appointment was when they pricked her toe for the anemia test. Mary Stewart is sitting on the table & I'm holding her hands ( thinking this may hurt her). The nurse does the little punch on her toe & Mary Stewart looks at her and says "uh oh"! Not tear from her just a precious "uh oh"......

She's not sure about the band aid on her toe!

Lizzie's Perspective

Hi; my name is Lizzie. Really, it is Sweet Elizabeth of Highland, but my masters call me Lizzie, or Lizzie Goose, or Lizzie Goosie, or Lizzie Goosie-Magoose (from a previous marriage). Ashley thought that I should tell you something about myself because today is my birthday. Today I am 77 dog-years old.
I am a Labrador. You know how I know I’m a Labrador? Because my momma was a Labrador, my momma’s momma was a Labrador, my momma’s momma’s momma was a Labrador, and my momma’s, momma’s momma’s momma was an old old Labrador.
As a Labrador, I’m a sportin’ dog, not a workin’ dog (I found about that in Lab School). So, people want me to fetch, or clean up something. I would, but I’m a sportin’ dog, not a workin’ dog.
I used to run around the neighborhood, and when it rained, I would run through the ditch with my nose in the water, but I quit doing that because my legs don’t run any more.
I like to sleep on my back. I am told that I snore bad, but it doesn’t bother me, I do it aaaalllll the time.
I got a question. Why is it that people stay gone so long? Ever day they go out and don’t come home till late at night, if they even come home then. I stay home aaaaalllll the time. Why don’t they?
When I was younger, we had a little dog here, her name was Belle. Belle was not so nice. She said that she was the Grand Poobah of the I Hate Labradors Society”. I don’t think that Belle was really mean; she just talked like she was.
Things I don’t care for.
I don’t care for boomers. Boomers come around, and they make me real nerbous. Then, when I get real nerbous, grandma fusses about me drooling on the floor, so I have to lay real real still. Then the boomers go away.
I don’t care for cats. Cats are too cool for my taste. Cat’s, taste, hmmmmm….
I don’t care for rides in cars. You can’t be too careful.
I really don’t care for rides in cars to the beternarium. I can’t start to tell you how mean that guy is. Great smells there though.
I don’t care for baths. Belle use to say “There’s nothing good about a bath”. I didn’t think so at first. But Belle was right.
Things I do care for.
I care for all my masters. (Especially Ma) She gives me treats. All I have to do is wait for them to sit down when they have a cup of smoking water in their hand, and I ask them for treats. She will allllways get it.
I care for treats.
I care for back scratches. Whoo – Hooo
I care for tenni balls. Tenni balls are one of the best things that there is.
So, for my 77th birthday
I’m Lizzie the Labrador. When I sleep, I sometimes snore. You know I don’t mean to, but I try to … whatever. I’m Lizzie the Labrador.
Good day everbudy.

Special Thanks to my guest blogger Lizzie (as told by PaPa).

PaPa

Yesterday, July 14th was Papa's birthday. Papa is Matthew's dad, my father in love, and Mary Stewart's grandfather. On his birthday we salute Papa with our "Ten Favorite Things We Love About Papa!" In no particular order......

1. Papa loves music. Just spend a day with him at Camp D & you will know what I mean.
2. There are 2 sides to Papa: Business & Play
3. He is the man behind Camp Donald!
4. How he puts up with, oh I mean loves Italians!
6. Papa likes fun toys (especially fun cars!)
7. He is the only man we know who gets really really giddy about sleeping on his porch (yes on his on free will)!
8. He somehow always manages to get that dessert!
9. Who else has the gift of speaking Labrador.
10. Papa's rules: 1. Papa is always right 2. If you think he is wrong, see rule #1.

There are oh so many things we love about Papa, but perhaps in this house, what stands out is the legacy he leaves to us daily in Matthew. How fortunate we are to have a husband and father who has had such an incredible example as Papa.
Thanks Papa for you ever continuing graciousness to us!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Today is my mom's 50 something birthday (Yes I know which one, but isn't is rude to tell a lady's age?). This is year as I celebrate my mom's birthday, it's a little bit different now that I am a mom. Though Mary Stewart has only been with us for a short time, the place a mother has for her children is so sacred. I am beginning to see a glimpse of that same love, a mothers love, my mom has for me. I have always appreciated my mom, but it's now that I can begin to understand her perspective (I do know I have a long way to go still.....).
I dread the day when Mary Stewart is too cool for me, or the day she starts to sass or roll her eyes (those were my tendencies) at me. Hopefully I will always hold a special place in her heart, as my mom holds a special place in mine.
The other day on the christian radio station they were talking about mothers and raising children. They quoted a book (of course I can't remember) saying that a mother has done her job when her children no longer need her. My mom has always said she made Holly and I too independent, where we don't need her. Looks like she has been successful!
There is a part of us that always needs our mother. A mother offers unconditional love, always.
So here is to you mom! Happy Birthday. We love you!
